Can you help?
Thanks

Stuff: I have a round metal tray, 12-14 inches in diamater, from Marineland of the Pacific. My Mother visited CA in 1963,
but has passed on, and I can not ask her if she visited the park. Her name is Dorothy Miller from Edwardsville, Illinois 62025
and she visited during the summer months of 1963. She might have signed a guest book.

Stuff: I am interested in finding "The Geronimo". This is the boat that Frank
Brocato used to catch Bubbles the pilot whale and many other fish. He is
my great-grandfather and my family wanted to purchase the boat for my
father, his grandson, for his birthday. If anyone knows where this boat
may be, could you please let me know asap!! Thank

Stuff: I was so thrilled to find this website! I just hope I have enough room to tell you
everything about my experiences at ML! I will go by year...
My parents took us there often, (I was born in 1962), until they were divorced in 1971.
My mom took us there often after the divorce and she knew many of the trainers there because
she worked at Lucky Market on 25th and Western in San Pedro, so we got in for free.
One of my favorite memories there is being able to get into the park before it opened, and I
used to slide down the old "Giant Slide" on wax paper...the moisture from the ocean used to
build up on that slide so much that the poor soul who was assigned to the slide that day had
to slide down it on wax paper to dry it off so those burlap bages could slide down for the
customers.
I have a photograph of me taking a big plastic bone from Orky, I was about 10 at the time.
I also have a photograph of one of the Mermaids who used to work there in the early '60's.
My prized possession is a blue windbreaker that has the Marineland of the Pacific logo on the
back of it, it was from the '60's or '70's and was given to me by a trainer, who's name I do
not remember.
My older brothher worked in janitorial in the late '70's. He told me that he used to have to
hose down Killer Whale stadium every morning...he also learned that Orky and Corky LOVED to
roll over and to be squirted on their bellies with the hose. When I was working there in
Guest Relations, I used to go in early and sneak up to do the same thing, those Orcas LOVED
IT!
I have a photo of me in my stupid polyester Guest Relations uniform too.
I got a job at ML because Scott Rutherford, the Director of Mammels, lived accross the street
from me. (That summer, most of The Great American Diving Team lived next door to me, that
must have been because of Scott too?).
I worked for Karey Keenan who reported to John,,,(Bucknovitz??? I can't remember his name
now).
OK, I have so many more memories of that place, but that's all for now! I HOPE that your
webpage grows!!
If you want copies of my photos, please send me an email. I don't have a scanner so you
would have to do it for me.
Take care,
Mark

Stuff: Dead Orca...
The park used to have a full-sized fibreglass Orca on display. After so many years the
management decided to stop using the faux whale. When they removed the display from public
view, they took it to the lower grounds (near the old pier) and just set it on the ground.
While this life-like whale was in fact out of public view, no one considered the fact that
there was a Skytower! Needless to say, the park got several complaints from horrified guests
about Marineland's practice of simply tossing Orca carcases out like garbage! They quickly
removed it from view...
Great Lines...
As a former Guest Relations employee who had to take about 50 trips a day up the skytower, I
wonder if management knew that we were not quite following the pre-written script that we
were supposed to use...some great lines (that we actually used):
"Good afternoon everyone, welcome to Marineland's Skytower! Today we will make 8 scenic
revolutions and slowly rise 244 feet above sea-level to the top of tower, at which point we
will plummet to the ground at over 600 MPH"!
"...and that landmass you see on the horizon is in fact China". (Some people actually fell
for that one).
"Thank you for riding the Skytower! As you exit, please watch your step and watch your
head...and if you should trip or hit your head, please watch your languege".
That's all for now...
